Spray measurements with the time-shift technique

The time-shift technique is a well-documented for the size and velocity measurement of individual drops passing through one or two tightly focused laser beams. It counting technique, nominally applicable pure liquid drops, but with potential to also characterize embedded particles containing second dispersed phase. In present study novel approach signal processing introduced in which detection validation phase eliminated. This extends capabilities manners. For one, estimates are made possible exhibiting very poor structure signal-to-noise ratio. Such signals commonly expected when measuring complex either nano/micro-particles (dispersions) emulsions. Second, distributions estimated not by from (single realization technique), large ensemble drop signals, improving both computational speed reducing influence outliers final statistics. These achieved without sacrificing accuracy mean variance ensembles. To demonstrate advantages this new approach, measurements paint spray presented, processed using standard routines approach. Limitations concerning application discussed detail.
